WSHA Student Scholarships

The WSHA Foundation currently sponsors several annual scholarship competitions, with awards announced at the Association’s Convention in the spring of each year. In awarding scholarships, WSHA does not discriminate based on race, color, creed, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

All application materials must be received by WSHA on or before the specified date each year. Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified.

Jack Kile Scholarship

This annual scholarship is sponsored by Jack Kile, Ph.D., CCC-A. Dr. Kile's passion for audiology has influenced countless professionals in the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology. The scholarship was established for students with an indicated interest in pediatric audiology or educational audiology at either the undergraduate or graduate level.


Risa Mari Otto Scholarship

This memorial scholarship is sponsored by the family and friends of Risa Mari Otto, M.S., CCC--SLP. Risa earned her degree while under treatment for a malignant brain tumor which ultimately caused her death in October 2001. Risa was 28 years old. It is the hope of the various sponsors that Risa's spark and professional enthusiasm will be perpetuated by the recipients of this award who will commit to treat Hispanic clients in their future work as speech-language pathologists.


The Judith H. and David J. Ward Scholarship

This annual scholarship is sponsored by Judith Hart Ward, a speech-language pathologist whose primary professional interest has been in working with students in the public schools who have communication difficulties, and David J. Ward, Judy's husband, whose career has been as a professor and administrator in the University of Wisconsin System.


Nancy McKinley Scholarship

This annual scholarship is sponsored by Thinking Publications to honor Nancy Lee McKinley. The award is named for Nancy McKinley—an accomplished Speech-Language Pathologist, who contributed immensely to the profession as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the public schools, as a university professor, and as the founder of Thinking Publications. Nancy was an internationally recognized expert on adolescent language disorders: she presented workshops and co-authored numerous journal articles and books on this topic and advocated for provision of services to older students.

WSHA Foundation, Inc. Heart of Healthcare Scholarship

The scholarship award will be presented at a WSHA regional meeting or the Convention each year. The date of the scholarship presentation will be determined by the WSHA Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors.
