Navigating Change 2008 is a fitting theme for the 2008 WSHA-P Convention in Madison. It reflects a dramatic shift in focus while maintaining a steady forward course. Most of the programming changes we have made this year are a direct result of the feedback received from 2007 Convention goers. You asked for more in-depth sessions, on hot topics, with nationally recognized speakers. You got it and more!
In the schools track, you can Walk Awhile in My Autism with Dr. Nanette Negri and Kate McGinnity, M.S., for a full day on Thursday. Gear up on Friday morning with Donna Geffner, Ph.D., CCC-SP/A, who will be speaking on Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD). We hope you choose to spend your Friday afternoon with Elizabeth C. Crawford, M.S., CCC-SLP, learning about Current Reading Research and Practical Treatment Ideas for Monday Morning.OnSaturday, Barbara J. Ehren, Ed.D., CCC-SLP, presents a full day on RTI and SLPs: A Foot in the Door for Inclusive Services for Students with Language Impairment.
Is your interest birth to six? Rona Alexander, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, BRS-S, and Cindy Michalek, M.S., CCC-SLP, will be presenting a full day on The First Year of Life: What To Look For, What To Watch For and What To Do. Raquel Anderson, Ph.D., will be speaking on Working With Linguistically Diverse Children and Families: Challenges and Strategies.
The adult medical track is just as impressive. On Saturday, Florence B. Blager, Ph.D., will discuss Trends and the Paradoxical Vocal Fold Motion. Tammy Hopper, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, will be speaking on Cognitive-Communication Disorders of Dementia: Assessment and Intervention.
A FEES Workshop will be offeredon Thursday. Joe Murray, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, BRS-S, will co-present with Paula Sullivan, M.S., CCC-SLP, BRS-S, ASHA Fellow, on The Vulnerable Elderly Patient with Dysphagia: Assessment and Managementon Saturday. Erwin Montgomery, M.D., will present on Friday morning the exploration of Parkinson’s Diseasewhich leads into an afternoon discussion on LSVT, Swallowing Issues and Glottal Insufficiencyin the Parkinson patient. The highlight of the Convention just might be the Parkinson’s Playhouse, a theatrical group, performing at the Association Luncheon on Saturday.
The audiology speaker committee has done an amazing job again this year offering in-depth sessions by the ever popular Robert Sweetow, Ph.D., on Clinical Management of the Tinnitus Patient. Dr. Sweetow will also present Moving Beyond the Hearing Aid Evaluation: Comprehensive Aural Rehabilitation. Jeffrey Staab, M.D., M.S., will be here to discuss Psychological Factors in Patients with Dizziness – Concepts, Detection and Treatment. Additionally, there will be high-quality sessions on topics ranging from worker’s compensation to IEP advocacy to pediatric and adult FM issues, plus much more.
The Convention Committee is very excited about the changes we have made to enhance your Convention experience. So try it on for size. Convention 2008 just might be the perfect fit!
