WSHA logo 2000 NSSHLA Leadership Retreat

September 16, 2000
Hosted by UW - Milwaukee

Thank you to Dr. Marylou Gelfer and the staff and students in the UW-Milwaukee Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders for hosting this leadership retreat!

Students from five of the eight Wisconsin university programs in communication disorders participated in the retreat. Pictured here with retreat participants are (front row, left to right) Caryn Easterling, WSHA President, Nancy McKinley, WSHA Past President, and Dr. Marylou Gelfer, Department Chair at UW-Milwaukee. Programs represented were UW-Milwaukee, Marquette University, UW-Madison, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Oshkosh

Dr. Gelfer and students participate in discussions about volunteerism and service.

Nicole Kapellen (center) participates with fellow group members in a teambuilding/leadership exercise focusing on communication styles and team process. Nicole is a graduate student at UW-SP and this year’s student representative to WSHA’s Executive Board.

WSHA President Caryn Easterling shares ideas with fellow group members during the teambuilding exercise. Students commented in the debriefing how wonderful it was to work shoulder-to-shoulder with state leaders in their field.

"What have we learned today?" WSHA President-elect Tina Radichel facilitates the debriefing session.
